Mitsubishi describes the Mitsubishi Triton double cab as capable of maintaining current speed when traveling downhill by automatically applying brakes on HDC mode which activates Hill Descent Control, reducing footwork on manual brakes when traveling downhill. Engine output, transmission settings and braking, adjust accordingly to optimize performance, on Off road settings be it Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand or Rock. The MIVEC turbo diesel engine gives you plenty of power to tackle any challenge you throw at it. Putting out 135 kW @ 3,500 RPM of power with ease.
An upgraded interior made larger, with an SUV like sensibilities (both in handling and interior and exterior design); but with a workhorse background, a hardcore approach to handling any payload and legendary 3100 kg braked towing capacity. It's supposed to offer a quiet cabin experience and a more relaxed drive and less driver fatigue, thanks to the MIVEC DOHC Intercooled Turbo Diesel engine found in all Triton model variants. More responsive steering than all previous generations, which has resulted in a best-in-class turning radius which enables the Mitsubishi Triton to get out of even the tightest spots.
It has more responsive engines to ever be mounted in a bakkie. A 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine with Common Rail Direct Injection. This engine has been rated as one of the most efficient in the world, with a low compression ratio of 15.5:1. offering exceptionally low fuel consumption figures. Drivetrain Fuel Consumption: 4×2 consume 7.5L per 100km and on the 4×4 7.6L being per 100km.

The R444,995 2024 Triton Single cab 2.4L GL M/T 4X2 has similar capabilities as the R529,990 2024 Triton Double Cab 2.4L GL M/T 4X2, the noticeable features being 2 Airbags and the 1,400kg Towing Mass (Braked), the difference being R84,995. Whereby an additional R109,995 can get you 7 Airbags, Active Stability and Traction Control; HSA (Hill Start Assist System), Rear View Camera, Multi-function Leather Steering Wheel and Bluetooth with Hands-free Voice Control on the 2024 Triton Double Cab 2.4L DI-DC Manual Transmission 4X2, but the ABS + EBD + BAS (Brake Assist System) it's standards on the mentioned models.
From those, it's add-ons, just add a 6-speed Automatic Transmission on the 2.4L double cab DI-DC A/T 4X2 or turn the 2.4L DI-DC M/T into a 4×4 with a Super Select II 4WD System and the Rear Diff Lock and Hill Descent Control before adding the 6-speed Automatic Transmission. And get deeper into the Xtreme, Heritage and athlete (with 18″ Alloy Wheel (Black)) models. If we get deep with you we'll never finish, this isn't an auction.
Here's BBC Top Gear South's 2.4L DI-DC A/T 4X4 review: "other than the transmission type and drivetrain there is little to no difference between the model variants."
"Triton is an engineering marvel that provides class leading fuel consumption not just here in South Africa but across the globe. The Mitsubishi Triton was an underdog in the tested bakkies. It is a bakkie often overlooked by first-time buyers – a shame since it was one of the more competent contenders in the arena."
"The screen, though, was one of many outdated aspects of the interior, as the drive selector and climate control panel also felt considerably old. There is decent legroom in the back for a double cab, and the front seats are spacious and comfortable. When first driving the Triton, you'll notice its powerful motor that resembles that of a diesel torque powerhouse. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox which, while slightly sluggish, does what it's supposed to. Complementing the standard 2-High (4x2) setting, the 4-High and 4-Low options allow the Triton to comfortably tackle any terrain within reason. Throttle responses when calling upon the services of 4-Low are a bit binary, but it doesn't detract from the overall tractability of this system, especially over loose rocks. From steep descents where the hill-descent control feature worked a treat to the overall dimensions in terms of approach and departure angles to ground clearance – it didn't once break a sweat."
"I found the Triton's characteristics and capabilities closely aligned with the Isuzu D-max V-Cross 4x4 (R857,700) and the Nissan Navara PRO-4X at R812,900. From a tech point of view, the Triton doesn't compete with these two more expensive and newer bakkies. A Bakkie comparable to that of a Nissan Navara or Toyota Hilux, but with a more affordable price tag."
