The Bakkie/pickup that went into production from 1985–present as the predecessor of Datsun/Nissan 720, got unveiled with a new look in 2021 and it has enhanced safety features; also known for its durability, reliability and versatility. I'm referring to a Nissan Navara (frontier). The name Nissan Navara it's used to identify Nissan pickup bakkies with D21, D22, D40 and D23 model codes. The name it's used in Australia, New Zealand, Central America, South America, Asia, Europe, and South Africa. In North, Central and South America and some selected markets, it is marketed as the Nissan Frontier or Nissan NP300. The Navara gets its name from the Navarre region of northern Spain. The European version was built at the Nissan Motor Ibérica factory in Barcelona.

It comes as a 2-door or 4-door pickup/Bakkie. Front-engine with rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive. The new Navara comes with many technologies including Nissan Intelligent Mobility features and safety systems (creating a360-degree safety shield for the vehicle, helping protect the driver and passengers from potential risks), making it the most advanced Navara yet. To avoid the risk of multiple-car accidents, it has a forward collision warning, monitoring not only the vehicle right in front of it, but it also monitors two vehicles ahead and with an intelligent emergency braking system designed to avoid collisions (It can also automatically engage the brakes to help avoid a frontal collision or lessen the severity of an impact). With a Driver Alertness, detecting driving style or steering behavior gives audible alerts.

The four mounted cameras might be appropriate, as you can see cars and people approaching the vehicle. I'm thinking about crime but Nissan thinks about the trailer hitching and parallel parking. Damn, there's an off-road monitor useful on four wheel drive at low speed to confirm obstacles. I give up, it has a rain-sensing wiper with speed adjustment and it has a speed-sensing door locking as speed exceeds 25km/h? Now smart parking mirrors signal that the vehicle is locked or unlocked. Front camera monitors the white and yellow lane markers for Lane Departure and if you switch on your turn signal to change lanes, the system alerts you by continuously flashing the indicator light to assist you to avoid a collision. Blind Spot warning, with an indicator on the side notifying the driver when it detects a car. High Beam Assist can automatically deactivate Navara’s high beams if it detects an oncoming vehicle, and reactivate the high beams.

A strengthened rear axle and additional truck bed volume (depending on region) to take on more challenges. A new rear bumper makes bed access easier and reduces fatigue caused by repeated loading and unloading. Nissan’s engineers increased the payload, up to 1144 kg - Payload (SC) and up to 1086 kg - Payload (DC). In four-wheel drive mode, the Navara activates its Active Brake Limited Slip Differential system (ABLS), managing power delivery and wheel braking between the front and rear axles and between the left and right of the vehicle, depending on traction and speed. This system enables drivers to be more confident and feel secure when towing large payloads and driving through muddy terrain with less acceleration and brake operation. The Trailer Sway Control system helps the vehicle to maintain stability on the road when towing a trailer. Adding to the vehicle’s stability and handling, Navara Double Cab has a heavy duty 5-link coil rear suspension (like an SUV). Navara contains spinal support in the driver seat which promotes ‘neutral’ posture to reduce pressure on the spine, and the rear seats are now even more comfortable, with upgrades to the seat cushions and back shapes. Dual air-conditioning ensures everyone inside feels the comfort of the Navara.

"This bakkie is designed to give you exceptional comfort as your adventure travel and worksite partner, well-equipped to take on new challenges while still offering optimal room and quiet comfort that supports you on any road,” said Stefan Haasbroek, Nissan South Africa Marketing Director.

The new Nissan Navara from R 524,500. Nissan has a proven 2.3-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine making a respectable 140kW of power and 450 Nm of torque, not fast but it does the job of hauling the big rig along. It can be paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission. Fuel consumption for the 2023 Nissan Navara is dependent on the type of engine, transmission, or model chosen. The Nissan Navara currently offers fuel consumption from 7.2 to 8.1L/100km.
